How to read this in 60 seconds

If you've never traded crypto, these four terms cover almost everything on this page.

Sentiment Score
One number, 0–100, that answers "is the market fearful or greedy right now?" Below 40 leans fearful, above 70 leans greedy, and the middle is roughly neutral.
Funding Rate
A fee traders pay each other to hold leveraged positions. When it's sharply positive, a lot of money is betting on prices rising — a crowded trade that can unwind fast.
Open Interest
The total dollar value of active leveraged bets on an asset right now. Rising open interest means more money — and more risk — is flowing into that market.
Max Pain
The price where today's options traders would collectively lose the most money. Not a prediction, but prices often drift toward it as expiry approaches.

Is this financial advice?

No. SteelWater Insights is an information service that reports on market conditions — sentiment, positioning, news, and options data. It never tells you to buy or sell a specific asset, and nothing here should be treated as a recommendation.

How is the sentiment score actually calculated?

It blends momentum and positioning signals (short-, medium-, and longer-term price trend plus funding and open interest data) across BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP into a single 0–100 read. The exact weighting is proprietary, but every input feeding it — price, funding, open interest — is public exchange data you can cross-check yourself in the derivatives section below.

What is max pain, and should I trade around it?

It's the price at which options expiring that day would cause the largest total loss to option buyers. It's a real, mechanically computed number from live options open interest — not a forecast. Prices sometimes gravitate toward it near expiry, but plenty of days they don't. Treat it as one more data point, not a signal on its own.

Why is any of this free?
